Programs

Community Garden

The Garden is operational from May to October

Each Tuesday and Friday mornings from 9:00 – 12:00

Our Community Garden growing for the food bank is on Martin Street.

This program offers gardening experiences and volunteer opportunities for food bank clients.

All the food grown is used in the community kitchen to teach cooking lessons or cleaned, bagged and distributed through the food bank twice weekly during harvest months.

Garden planting, tending and harvesting experiences are offered each Tuesday and Friday and community volunteers are engaged to help tend the garden.

Fresh From The Farm

Fresh From the Farm

A summer youth program for children ages 10-16. This program runs from the beginning of July to the end of August each year.

Youth are taken on gleaning trips to pre-screened local organic orchards & farms throughout the Okanagan Similkameen on our Salvation Army bus.

Bus Drivers are volunteers registered with The Salvation Army Penticton with criminal record checks performed.

Registered students glean fresh fruits and vegetables for the food bank while a portion of the produce is taken to the Community Kitchen where the youth take preserving lessons with Salvation Army volunteers.

Fresh from the Farm 2019:

  • Picking strawberries, cherries, cucumbers, peppers, plums, tomatoes, apricots, peaches

  • Will visit the Community Garden and Okanagan Gleaners

Youth are also given the opportunity to receive their food safe level one and a letter of volunteer hours for their student profiles.
